Stewartry Festival 2009
Well done to all the players who attended the Stewartry Mini festvial
on Sunday 27th of September. Newton Stewart
managed to field seperate teams at P5, P6 and P7 with good win's in
all age groups. The P5's came away with a victory
against Stewartry (6-5) and Cumnock (9-3) and had two losses to
Ayr (6-4) and Langholm (4-1).
P6's started off slowly with two losses against Langholm (4-3) and Ayr (5-3)
but seemed to get better as the day went on and
came away with a win against Ayr in a second encounter (6-5). In
their last game they finished with a draw with Dumfries (3-3)
in a closely fought game. Of the 15 tries that
were scored by the Newton Stewart P6 team, all but two were claimed by
Russell Morton! The two remaining tries were
scored by Archie McCreath.
The P7 team also started slow with two losses to Ayr (7-2) and Cumnock (5-2) but seemed
to pick up in the same way as the
P6 team and drew with Moffat (5-5). Following this they beat Dumfries (3-0) and came
away with a (5-2) win against Langholm
in the last game of the day.
On a special note, well done to David Gaw who was awarded Player of the Tournament for the P5 age group!!!
